The Timberwolves played two hard fought games on Thursday and Saturday to stay undefeated in HSC regular division play. Due to the result of the games Tomball gained their first regional ranking in program history coming it at #9 behind LSU in the region IV standings.
On Thursday night the defense of Tomball was stellar fending off HCC-CSE who’s only loss came against undefeated HCC-District. Tomball was put under pressure throughout the first half but would dominate possession in the second half , unfortunately the usual potent attack of the Timberwolves was unable to produce a goal. The game ended 0-0 leaving both teams in the playoff hunt.
Less than 48 hours later Tomball would have to face regionally ranked HCC-District who were also undefeated but ahead of LSC-T after the team’s Thursday night draw. The game was played at a high pace and end to end but Tomball was able to score 3 unanswered goals and clinch the HSC regular division championship for the first time since 2003.
Coach Tim Grove had the following to say after the game, “The boys gave a phenomenal effort this week and it paid off for them. We set three goals this season… to win the conference regular season championship, to achieve a ranking, and to make the National Tournament. Two of three have been realized, now we must keep concentration to achieve our ultimate objective. I am very proud to be associated with this group of players.”
The Timberwolves will take on rival LSC-North Harris in the semi-finals who they also faced last season at the same stage and defeated in a 20 player shootout after two overtimes. The game is Friday at Bayland Park at 7pm.
